The KADOKAWA Group Human Rights Policy

The KADOKAWA Group recognizes that respecting human rights is an important social duty that it should fulfill in all situations in its business activities. It has established the KADOKAWA Group Human Rights Policy as its supreme policy related to initiatives for respecting human rights.

Remedial Measures (Establishment of a Contact Point for Human Rights Matters)

The KADOKAWA Group has established a contact point that is available to its officers and employees, including contract employees, fixed-time employees, part-time employees, dispatched temporary employees, and also its business partners. Through this contact point, the KADOKAWA Group provides consultation services regarding infringements of personal dignity and rights and other human rights matters.

Priority Issues Regarding Respect for Human Rights

The KADOKAWA Group has identified the following priority issues regarding respect for human rights, in consideration of its business activities and their characteristics and in accordance with international standard frameworks.

(1) Respect for diversity and elimination of discrimination

We will respect everyone as individuals. We will respect their diversity in terms of their race, religion, creed, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, disability, nationality, culture, values and other attributes and never tolerate discrimination or prejudice. We will respect the diversity of individuals. We will provide them with equal opportunities to create an environment where every employee is highly motivated and able to display their creativity to the fullest degree.

(2) Prevention of harassment

We will not tolerate any act of harassment or any behavior that violates the dignity of an individual.

(3) Prohibition of forced labor and child labor

We will support the four principles specified in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We will prohibit the employment of any worker under the statutory minimum working age in countries and regions in which we conduct business activities, and we shall not use such labor.* We will also prohibit and never use forced labor, labor under constrained conditions, prison labor, modern slavery, labor through human trafficking, labor under debt bondage or labor involving other similar labor practices.
*Excluding duties where child labor is deemed necessary due to the nature of the work (singers, child actors, etc.) within the scope of international standards.

(4) Proper management of working hours and wages

We will establish rules regarding proper working hours and rest time, overtime, late-night work, holidays and leave in accordance with labor laws and labor-management agreements in the individual countries and regions in which we conduct business activities. We will also comply with applicable laws and regulations regarding minimum wages, statutory benefits and deductions, overtime and other matters.

(5) Respect for freedom of association and collective bargaining rights

We will respect employees’ rights to form labor unions and choose to participate in them or not participate in them according to their own personal will, and we will not hinder the effective exercise of collective bargaining rights. Management will negotiate in good faith by participating in a constructive dialogue with labor representatives.

(6) Provision of a safe and healthy working environment

We will strive to ensure a safe and healthy working environment in consideration of employees’ physical and mental health. We will maintain it by appropriately responding to health risks in compliance with laws, regulations and provisions for safety and health.

(7) Protection of privacy and freedom of expression

As an entertainment company, the KADOKAWA Group recognizes that the freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution of Japan is indispensable and it conducts its business activities accordingly. At the same time, we will endeavor to prevent our acts of expression from having any adverse impact on human rights or exacerbating the adverse impact of anything on human rights in our interactions with others. Should any such situation occur, we will act sincerely to correct it.

(8) Respect for human rights in supply chains

We will ask our business partners to fulfill a standard that is equivalent to the KADOKAWA Group’s policy and expect them to conduct initiatives for respecting human rights in collaboration with the KADOKAWA Group.
